Bio
Veera Rustomji is a multidisciplinary artist from Karachi. Her practice uncovers historiographical power structures portrayed through materials which explore geographical influences and archival methods. She holds a BFA from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVS) and an MA from Chelsea College of Arts at the University of the Arts London (UAL), where she was awarded the UAL Postgraduate International Scholarship. Veera produced a body of documentation capturing the erasure of island life and coastal heritage within the Indus Delta for the Mead Fellowship from 2022 to 2023. She was commissioned by the Arts and Cultural Development Foundation of Uzbekistan (ACDF) to produce an installation on Zoroastrian heritage in Central Asia, which was displayed at the inaugural Bukhara Biennale in 2025. Her works are held in institutional collections such as Art Jameel, and she has presented her research across multiple platforms, including the Iranica Symposium at the University of St Andrews, the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America (FEZANA), the Women of the World Festival by the British Council, and Arts South Asia Project (ASAP). In the past, she has worked on bridging archives and fieldwork through collaborative projects and residencies supported by Arts Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Pro Helvetia and Ajam Media Collective.
Veera is faculty at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and co-director of the Urban Repository Archive (URA) housed within the Department of Fine Art at IVS. The URA explores how student-led research responds to the changing landscape of Karachi. Catalogued projects and collaborations can be viewed at www.ura-ivs.com
